  9. Welcome to the  third update to CygnusEd Professional Release 4. This document
  10. describes  which  changes were made to CygnusEd and its associated files since
  11. Version 4.2 of the editor was published in October 1997:

  21. This distribution contains patches for the following files:
  22.  
  23.    - CygnusEd text editor (both the plain 68k and the 020+ version)
  24.    - MetaMac macro editor
  25.    - RecoverCEDFiles crash recovery utility
  26.  
  27. In addition to this, new versions of the following files are provided:
  28.  
  29.    - Online help (CygnusEd_Manual.guide)
  30.    - German language support files (drawer "Catalogs/deutsch")
  31.    - Localization files (see drawer "Localization")

  34. - 2. Updating ----------------------------------------------------------------

  36. The   update   program   requires  that  you  insert  the  original  "CygnusEd
  37. Professional Release 4" CD into your CD-ROM drive. The CD icon must be visible
  38. in  the Workbench window. The update procedure itself looks very much like the
  39. CygnusEd  installation process, but it cannot completely replace it. Thus, you
  40. must have CygnusEd installed before you can update it.

  43. - 3. Changes -----------------------------------------------------------------

  45. The  following  section  lists  major  changes in the single updated programs.
  46. Minor technical details have been omitted.
  47.  
  48. CygnusEd_Professional 4.17 (18.1.99)
  49.  
  50. - The file name suffix extraction code now tries to be a tad smarter
  51.   when stripping the suffix characters from the file name.
  52.  
  53. - The code to load the default preferences is now a bit less complex
  54.   and should be more careful at loading the configuration data. The
  55.   prefs loading code now also honors local ("PROGDIR:") configurations
  56.   instead of just looking into the current directory and "S:".
  57.  
  58. - The code that composes a prefs file name of a path and a suffix
  59.   no longer looks different in different parts of the program. It
  60.   now uses the same technique consistently throughout all parts
  61.   that need to work with it.
  62.  
  63. - After not reading that much of data (or not reading any data
  64.   at all) from the prefs file, the code could try to reinitialize
  65.   the environment data based upon the "new" data. Looks as if this
  66.   wasn't such a good idea after all since a) the data never changed
  67.   anyway if none could be read and b) even if it didn't change the code
  68.   somehow managed to screw one or the other thing up. The code now
  69.   does nothing if there really is nothing to be done.
  70.  
  71. - Fixed yet another highlighting bug which was most apparent in
  72.   display modes that do not support masked blitter operations
  73.   (i.e. 16 bits per pixel). It was caused by vertical block
  74.   highlighting [Ralph Schmidt].
  75.  
  76. - Fixed a bug which would occur when splitting a view in
  77.   display modes that do not support masked blitter operations
  78.   (i.e. 16 bits per pixel). This appears to be the last bug
  79.   of its kind [Ralph Schmidt].

  81. - Switched the exec.library pragma header file over to
  82.   reference SysBase rather than AbsExecBase.
  83.  
  84. - Horizontal scrolling no longer introduces artefacts into the
  85.   area on the right hand side of the screen. That is, unless
  86.   CygnusEd is set to use its custom scrolling routines.
  87.  
  88. - The text scrolling code now takes a short cut if set to
  89.   scroll complete lines. This makes text scrolling faster
  90.   than ever.
